New Fire System in rental property

New Fire System in rental property

Didn't find your answer?

A client has paid £2,500 towards a new fire system in her furnished rental property - how should this expense be treated?

I believe it's a legal requirement to install such a system, so can it be claimed as an expense?

Or is it capial? It's not covered by wear and tear so are capital allowances available?

Thanks in advance for your thoughts

Clarification

Is this a fire alarm system in her property or is this a fire system in the building in which the property is located. Was there a fire system prior to the new one. Regards Peter
