Online bookeeping systems

We have a client who uses Sage, and would like to move online so that we can view data in "real time" as opposed to messing around with backups.

We have looked at Sage Online and it seems very expensive, especially as they have three companies.

that being the case, I wondered what altertives there are in the market place?
