OpenOffice workbook protection

OpenOffice workbook protection

Didn't find your answer?

We have just given up Microsoft Office in favour of OpenOffice. We are in the process of buidling a spreadsheet which requires the following protection

Some members of staff will need to be able to amend the data in the spreadsheet
Others will only be allowed read-only access

Therefore I need the spreadsheet to open up with a dialogue box with the opportunity to open read only or enter the password to open properly

Can't seem to find out how to do this in OpenOffice

Can anyone help please

Thanks
Karen

The closest ...
... I could find was to protect the sheet.

Go in Tools > Protect Document > Sheet. Close the document and open it again.

You are now unable to modify the sheet unless you go and unprotect it first. This seems to be what you want, the only downside is that the people with full access need to remember to protect it back after use.

Hope this helps.
