Overseas Landlord
I have been asked by a potential client to advise him on the best way to structure the acquisition he proposes of 4 properties in the UK. The value will be £200k each and he will be borrowing £400k to purchase these BTLs.
He is a US citizen (and completes a US tax return) who is working in an oil company in Kazakstan and pays tax in Kazakstan in his income.
He wants to know simply (!) if he should buy the properties in the UK as an individual or via a UK limited company (I will be advising him from a UK tax perspective on the profits only).
As I am not familiar yet with all the non resident landlord issues could I ask readers for a few pointers or an answer to the question "What would you recommend?"
