Overseas Travel

Didn't find your answer?

A client who is director of a limited company is probably going to relocate to Austria in due course. In the meantime his wife & child have moved there & he visits regularly.

He is claiming that he does some business in Austria & has actually gained some business & will probably set up either an Austrian company or division of the UK company.

He would like to be able to put the costs of his travel to Austria as an expense to the UK company. Initially I advised that the trips are not 100% business & that there therefore is duality of purpose the costs would not be allowable.

He has taken advice from another advisor, who said if he makes his wife a director (she is currently company secretary), he could then claim that at least some of the travel costs are business related & therefore charge them to the company & reduce corp tax.

I still don't agree, but any help will be appreciated.
