Password Control?

Password Control?

Didn't find your answer?

Good morning all,

I'm more at home on the tax "any answers" page, but thought I would post a question here to pick your IT brains!

I would like to give my colleagues access to HM Revenue & Customs online services so that they can access details regarding clients of my firm, however, I recognise giving everyone the user ID and password could be a security risk.

At my last firm, out IT department put in place a, for want of a better word, veil between the user and HMRC's login details, such that one launched HMRC's website through a macro/the intranet and the user ID and password were automatically populated with the user knowing neither.

Does anyone have any idea how this is done?

With many thanks in anticipation, Anthony

Delegated Rights Management
I can't give you a technical solution but your old firms's IT staff might offer some help.

You may also like to know that HMRC have been talking about a Delegated Rights Management (DRM) for some while and was due to go live in Feb 2008. I think it is delayed though.

DRM would broadly give your firm the ability to tell HMRC which clients you act for and which ones each staff can work on.

Register and set up additional Users or Assistants on-line throu
Hello Anthony,

From what you said, you obviously already have a government gateway User ID and can log onto it.

So, you can go to either of the following sections of the site:
https://secure.gateway.gov.uk/Users/Create.aspx where you can add users

or

https://secure.gateway.gov.uk/Assistants/Create.aspx where you can add assistants.

When you create a new user or assistant, they are sent their own user ID in the post along with the password that you assign.

There is a good explanation on the pages that will help you choose whether to add users or assistants.

I'm not a real "expert" where the government gateway is concerned but I think you'll be able to achieve what you want by looking on the above and associated pages.
