Pasting Excel Into MS Word...

Pasting Excel Into MS Word...

Didn't find your answer?

I'm doing the statutory accounts in word and excel.
All the financial schedules are in excel, so any changes cascade through all schedules.
I want to 'paste link' into word so that it will cascade through to word as well.
This is easy, using paste special - paste link.

My question is.....
I have 5 choices...
1-as object
2-as RTF
3-as metafile
4-as bmp
5-as HTML

(I've discounted both unformatted and hyperlink as unsuitable)

Are any of the 5 preferable to the other 4, or do they all behave themselves.
I would hate to have to do the whole exercise again.

Thanks.

Don't bother
I used to do the same thing until I found this: http://www.vtsoftware.co.uk/
It is really worth investing in.

Trial and Error
All the options give a different range of pros and cons. I find that this aspect of Excel/Word integration is pretty poor, but then I don't think you get true integration, more a sort of 'darned sock' effect.

I usually use trial and error whenever I need to do this and use whatever works best for that time. There's always a bit of fiddling about.

Pasting Excel tables into Powerpoint can be even worse!

Paste formats
It partly depends on where you might want to do any formatting from - RTF and HTML should let you format the content in Word, whereas the others will require any formatting changes to be carried out in the original Excel source. It is also a good idea to give any ranges that you link to Excel 'Range names' this will help Word keep track of any changes in the position of the content within the Excel sheets. The formats can also affect file size with BMP likely to be the biggest I think.
