PAYE Online - Registering Clients

PAYE Online - Registering Clients

Didn't find your answer?

I have just activated the PAYE Online filing ready for submitting P35's etc for ye 05.04.2006.

Like a good person, I thought it would be a good idea to get all the setups ready for filing after 5.4.2006. However, when trying to register the clients on the system as an agent - I was directed to another website "HMRC registration". I entered 4 clients with their PAYE and Accounts office Tax Reference numbers.

I then clicked on submit button to get it authorised for online filing as an agent. However, it came up as "Failed" authorisation. I phoned the PAYE Online helpdesk support who after a few minutes later said that the problem was that I cannot set up the clients until after 5.4.2006.

I queried with the support people that this cannot be the case but they insisted that is how it is. Surely, this can't be the case?

Has anybody else has problems?

Any comments would be appreciated.

KInd regards

they are probably right
Can't remember where I saw it but I think HMRC announced a few weeks ago that we won't be able to submit online PAYE returns from mid-March to 5 April. Something about the system being tested!!

If tax district starts with 0 they can't register it
I had 2 clients with this problem but managed to register as agent for all the others last week. For these two others the helpline advised that they could not process anyone registered at a district office that start 0 e.g. 073. I just got these clients to sign an FBI2 form and sent to HMRC on advice of the helpline. I just hope it doesn't take ages for them to register me as their online agent. If what they have told you were the case then why are they saying on their website "Send your online returns now" that does not make sense.

FBI2
I've just recently sent in FBI2s for some new clients and they were registered within a week. Download the form from HMRC website and complete. Easy

Registering clients as agent !
Hi all

Thank you all for your comments.

Deborah did you actually managed to register any clients at all without FB12? I was told that FB12 was not required if registering thru HMRC registration online process.

Incidentally, I was also told that any tax office beginning with "0" would not be registered online but have to go thru manual process via FB12 route.

Thanks once again.

Not as bad as it seems
Even if you can't get registered in time, it's not a total write-off. For PAYE returns, you can file even if you've not submitted FBI2 (or used the new online authorisation).

You won't get any information out of HMRC until you are registered, but you can file (and your client can get the £250)

Aparantly this is to be extended to Self Assessment Online in the next tax year (though I won't hold my breath...)

PS: I've just received notification that the upgrading is now complete and the site will take filed returns 'early'.
