We're buying new servers and going to virtual servers. Pegasus don't support Opera II on virtual servers but apparently there are users who have Opera II installed on a virtual server without any problems.
Does anyone have any experience with Opera II on virtual servers, good or bad?
Thanks
Kenneth

No, but..
Only really half an answer, but for what it's worth - we've run several Opera II clients over Citrix to our main server without any major issues.

Opera II on Virtual Servers
Hi
I had huge issues with this for one client.
Tips.
1. Forget NAS. NAS + Virtual Servers = Nada. I couldn't get this to work and the performance was rubbish when it did attempt to run for the few seconds it did.
2. I had loads of issues with the PDF Printer and I never got this to work again. I think we installed another PDF printer instead.
I would say that the client I had was using another service provider to host his servers so you might have more luck with the increased control you have. If you do experience issues after restoring the backup then you could try another method of installing detailed in the version 4 to version 5 upgrade instructions.
I'd just try the whole thing out. I used VMWare and had no issues.
Let me know if you get any weird errors and please do contact your Pegasus Reseller as they may not support any other issues if you are operating in an unsupported environment (I just happened to work for a really nice one).

No problem
Hi Kenneth,
Unless you're contemplating running OperaII under Terminal services, with remote desktops where you can have printing issues, everything should be fine.
OperaII will just see a virtual server exactly as though it were a physical device.
Just make sure you have plenty of RAM in the server with plenty allocated to the virtual server that's running OperaII.

Virtualisation and Opera II
Cirrusstratus.com provide Virtual Systems which comprise of Virtual Servers and Virtual desktops - uniquely duplicating any existing infastructure in its entirety.
Our solution allows us to host existing licenced software such as Pegasus Opera II.
We have many clients who utilise Opera II with all its componenets including Document Manager, XRL and SPM on our servers.
Provided Opera II is installed as dictated by Pegasus it would work and perform as if you had a traditional local network with all the benefits of a Virtual Solution.
Virtual Servers
Are you sure about the support situation?
We have quite a few people running it on virtual servers. If it's supported on Windows Server 2003, for example, then it should make no difference whether the server OS is on virtualised hardware or not. Windows Server 2003 is Windows Server 2003.
Opera II on virtual servers
Hi
There are no real issues with Opera II and virtual servers just insure I support a number on site with problems. You need to have plenty of RAM and your running a Opera II version 6.72 or newer and keep data set’s separate I,E company A in folder A and so on, permissions can be a pain with the PDF printer.
Just a quick one
