I am turning a mass of data into a pivot table
The resultant table would be half the height and width if redundant account codes / cost centres weren't included
All ideas welcome

Add yes/no field
How about adding a yes/no field to the data, against the account codes that you wish to omit.
Then, in the pivot table layout, use this field to create pages. You can then select the yes or no alternatives from the drop down box, This will give the table just the codes you need.
Alternatively, filter your source data before creating the table.
Filter it out
Tom's right. Filter it out before you import. If you don't want to display junk, don't bring it in in the first place.
Or you can just click on a column, then hit the ZA icon. This will shove all the zero values to the bottom of the list.

Asap Utilities provide a useful add-on for Excel, recommended several times on Any Answers. One facility provided is the ability to hide rows or columns based on user criteria. In your example, I'm assuming redundant codes would have zero values attached, so you could hide all rows with zero value.
