Pix operating/finance system?

Pix operating/finance system?

Didn't find your answer?

I have just come across this operating system in a conversation with a colleague.

Does anyone know about Pix operating/accounting system?

I would like to find out more about it but a web search returns nothing useful.

Thanks

Pick is a multivalued database now
Pick is an operating system that included a multidimensional database, it was deveeloped in the 60s and lost out to Unix in the opsys wars in the 80s. It is still around as a very flexible and powerful database (now known as D3) and also there are a couple of other implementations that run under Unix. There are a surprising number of applications that were written for Pick that are still running under it (esp in the public sector).

The vendors of the database in the UK are Raining Data, based in somewhere like Beaconsfield, I think. There's also another multivalued database called JBase, which has much in common. Both can run very cheaply under Linux and there are at least two UK vendors who specialise in putting together very effective systems with this combination.

I think you mean Pick
Pick was an operating system in the pre PC days that hosted its own database. I believe a number of financial applications were based on this database.

I think that the database bit survived to run on other operating systems, but I haven't come across this in practice for years.
