We had anticipated having Sage Practice Solution up and running by now but for technical reasons this hasn't been possible. I want to consider other possible Practice Management systems for our firm but its hard to find details on product. We want one database accessible from 3 locations.
Can anyone offer any advice on software that may be suitable

John,
Have you looked at Busy Desk from Logical Planet. I haven’t used it but I have heard good things about it.
it might be old hat
but if it works then why not? I would suggest Star with terminal services or citrix would be a good solution. As an alternative to Star you might try Digita.
MYOB Viztopia Practice Management
Hi John,
We use Viztopia Practice Management (VPM) from MYOB. We have used it for seven years now and it is a pretty good product. It links in with their document management system and tax software (Singleview & Pertax) which we also use.
We used to use it over two sites and I have a client that uses it over three sites. To do this we have deployed it using Citrix and Terminal Services. This allows all sites to run the software from servers based in the main office. There is no reason why this technology cannot be used with most other practice management solutions, so your three locations should not hinder the decision process.
If you would like more information on the Citrix/Terminal Services side of things then please feel free to get in touch.

SaaS... Please NOT Citrix
Dennis is quite correct -
Citrix is historic software employed so that software houses can continue to run legacy applications in todays environment whilst claiming to be multi-site and aligning themselves with SaaS offerings
You need a proper SaaS offering; accessed seamlessly via the browser (any browser & platform independant - Mac/Pc) using current technology and not an application using 'glue' to hold the whole thing together (aka Citrix) limited to very specific conditions
Even Microsoft themselves have eventually woken up to the merits of SaaS (5 years after the rest of the world)

Unfortunately they are up to their old tricks of missing the boat (re Netscape) and then using their financial muscle to set themselves up as the arbiters of excellence
Try Star Computers
Suggest you take a look at the Star Computers web site –
http://www.starplc.com/practice-management-intro.htm
Over 1,000 firms use their Practice Management solutions and these include many multiple office sites that run a single database.
Try Practice Engine
It's a system built for multi office operation and has a number of large organisations using it in that manner.

Citrx is not old hat.....
Dear John,
To put a cat amongst the pigeons, the useage of Citrix in some scenarios is very useful as it permits all applications to be hosted centrally, not just your PM software.
If you have multiple sites it is likely you wish to share other forms of data across these, and Citrix fits the bill perfectly. and is being used widely, by a lot of practices, plus it opens up remote working.
At Chameleon I.T we work with a lot of accountants ensuring they get as much out of their systems as possible, why do it yourself when the software can do it for you....
If you need any guidance, then please give us a call.

Citrix
Is a technology that's expensive and well past its sell by date. I wouldn't touch it with a barge pole. It's not designed for what I imagine you have in mind.
