Prepay legal fees?

Prepay legal fees?

Didn't find your answer?

A company's solicitor is working on behalf of the company to acquire a lease on a property. The solicitor raises a bill for work done to date priro to the company's year end. After the year end the solicitor completes the work and the company acquires the leasehold property. At the year end is there a "prepayment" against the total cost of acquiring the property or should the legal fees be written to P&L as they relate to services provided in the year? Will it make any difference if the lease acquired is for 5, 25 or 50 years?
