Proof of client identification

We often see new clients in their homes. Under the new money laundering regulations, we appear to be required to retain a copy of the proof of identity that we have seen. Many clients do not have a photocopier at home. Has anyone any suggestion as to how to copy a passport for instance when out of the office? We've tried a digital photo, but they don't copy well.
