Credit to HMRC for issuing 0300 (non-premium rate) numbers for their help lines. No credit for failing to apologise for introducing the premium-rate numbers in the first place or for saying "Other 0845 numbers will change in the coming months as part of a rolling program to give customers cheaper access to HMRC helplines" instead of "We apologise for trying to charge taxpayers when they were forced to call us"

I think that is wrong!
We tried an 0845 number a couple of weeks back and it 'number unobtainable'.
I can't remember which number it was though!
client
rang today to say they'd been shunted around and had to wait for 45minutes to eventually be told that the P35 "interim"penalty was incorrect.Told her to call me first next time !! A cynic may disgracefully think that HMRC balls things up so often deliberately.
Agent lines
Shame the agent lines are still 0845 numbers. Though at least the holds are shorter (aside from that annoying message at the start).
Agent line now 0300 200 3311

The agent dedicated line has just changed to 0300 200 3311. See here.

D'oh, there goes my self righteous rant! :)
Well that's good then, shame I laminated my 'useful numbers' sheet...
