ACCA Cert/Dip in IFRS

ACCA Cert/Dip in IFRS

Didn't find your answer?

Hi there,

Has anyone done either the Certificate or Diploma in IFRS offered by ACCA? I'm looking to refresh my IFRS knowledge and I've been looking at these two courses as they will also provide me with verifiable CPD hours. I'm wondering what the difference in scope and depth are between the two. Also, what the materials provided are like and the number of hours people have spent studying for these.

Thanks!

Betty

Diploma much tougher!

Someone in my office did the diploma. Apparently it is significantly more rigorous than the certificate which is really just like a CPD course whereas the diploma is the same standard as one of the advanced professional exam courses.  The diploma is 'examinable' online whereas you have to sit a 3 hour exam for the diploma.  Good luck!

Diploma/Certificate

Hi,

I did both in 2008 and they are very good courses for developing your IFRS knowledge. The certificate was offered online when I did it and I would imagine that still is the case. The Diploma is a paper-based exam and when I did it, ACCA recommended it could be sat within 3 - 6 months of going through the study material (which was immense and in many cases I didn't use the vast majority of it, although I already had an understanding of IFRS so didn't use it but I think other providers offer study material now so an Amazon search might prove helpful).  It maybe different now and I would think that a study period of between 3 - 6 months that would still be the case. The level of difficulty for the diploma lies in between the Fundamental paper F7 and the Professional level Paper P2. As I say it was some years ago when I sat the paper but it might be worth having a look at the Dip IFR syllabus on ACCA's website and some of the recent past exams to see what you could potentially be faced with. Regards Steve

Thanks!

Your comments have been really helpful - thanks. I think I'll give the certificate a try and see if that goes into the depth that I need.

Hi Betty,
I am thinking for going for the certificate or diploma but kind of confused which one i should opt for. I need your feedback for the certificate as i assume you would have given the exam by now.
Would appreciate your feedback in this regard

Yes I completed the certificate in December 2014. I found it to be a really useful all round syllabus and it has the bonus of being verifiable CPD units. The course is provided online by ACCA and you work through the slides at your own pace. The completion test is taken at the end (also online). I managed to work through the material in about a month.

I have a little more time on my hands now so I have entered the December sitting of the Diploma. I'd agree with the above responses that it's a far bigger commitment and much further in depth.

Hi Betty783,

Thank you for your info. Where can I find the past papers for certification exam? I'm going for the exam on January 2017. Any suggestion? Thanks
