On the back of my last question my ‘friend’ (uncle) is now looking for another accountant. As he will be tied up in the coming months it is quite urgent to get another one lined up asap. He’s asked me to assist him finding the right one for his business.
Searching the local area (10 mile radius) is proving impossible.
Most have no website or any online presence.
The one’s that do have either overdue accounts on CH and / or have an abundance of negative reviews on Yell etc. It makes me wonder how the joe public could trust anyone in our profession?!

Competitor accounts
I had some spare time a few weeks ago and decided I'd download a competitors accounts from CH. They had bee doing a of social media marketing and was interested (or nosey!) to see how they were getting on.
Much to my surprise, the balance sheet from 2013 to 2014 hadn't changed.
He had exactly the same bank balance, debtors, creditor, fixed assets!
Not as bad as estate agents.

Oh aye
Nobody's as bad as estate agents.
Except bankers, obviously.
Politicians ;-)
Oh aye.
Forgot those.
crooks and incompetents
I think these types tend to hide them selves away mainly in very large or very small firms. In the middle is where common sense generally resides...............
Lawyers
A worrying number of MPs, both current & historic studied law if they never practiced it.
As most firms of lawyers are also estate agents I put it to you that the legal profession is the worst.
In answer to your first line, it is YES. That said, I suspect the other professions mentioned are worse (Lawyers, Estate Agents, Politicians).
Yes it is
And clients should be more careful and check. I get new clients who say I trust you but they barely know me. I have tried on to give some references and Professional Membership for their benefit and they are not interested. I think they see that as offensive but I don,t I check up on everyone.
Well talking about bankers and staff this surpasses all decency they have now been sacked but I hope HSBC suffers. I can,t help feeling they sacked because they were caught . God only knows what goes on at HSBC. This makes are profession look like angels.

" I trust you implicitly"
This sent shivers down my spine when a client emailed me saying "I trust you implicity". No, I don't want a client to trust me without question. I want my clients to at least check things out, apply a logic/sanity check to whatever they're told. It's no surprise that some people get conned if they're so quick to trust people they barely know.
