anti spam for texts recvd on mobile

anti spam for texts recvd on mobile

Didn't find your answer?

keep receiving [ irritating] texts from  miselling PPI firms and Euromillions lottery 'seller'

just deleting them does not solve the problem of repeated incoming texts.  have never respondd to these, but they are no becoming increasing in frequency and of forwarders

is there anything which one can load to cease this !

the phone [ htc] has a few options for each message but spam is NOT yet one of them

must be a problem for a lot of us now...what are you all doing with them ?

blocker apps

You can download a free blocker app and then choose to add these numbers to a 'blacklist' which stops them coming through.  You aren't with 3 by any chance are you?!?

such as

@rachael thanks for response - no with everything everywhere  [tmobile] and its getting worse.

any specific software download recommendatons - htc/android v2.2.1,  presumably just search internet/google on the phone and download the recommendation

would be very interested in what others may be actually using for this,  and how well it works [ stopping the raft of wearisome sms 's  ]

I get them, too

PPI misselling, injury claims, lottery, pay to watch TV (football*&?!), etc, etc.

I have never given my mobile number to anyone on the internet, and I only give it to the occasional supplier, eg. British gas, Motor Insurance company, and businesses that I actually deal with.

Someone is selling mobile numbers ... and I wish I knew who it was so I could return the favour!

Selling mobile numbers?

I don't think it is selling them - computer generated messages can be sent to as many numbers as you want - supposedly they get a return of 0.5 to 1% which justifies the cost of the messaging.  The danger I always think is sending a reply so that they know you are an 'active number' - most of them allow you to say 'STOP' and supposedly you don't get anymore.  Has anyone ever replied 'Stop'?  If so was it a premium number so you get charged for the privilege, and did the calls then stop?  I seem to get a rash every couple of weeks and then nothing for a while (Orange).  I always wondered what was the best thing to do.  I have registered all of my numbers with the Telephone Preference Service and that has put paid to the vast majority of the really irritating call centres except those from International numbers - even then mention the TPS and they do seem to go away.

STOP

Replying stop lets them know the number is active so they can then sell your number on to someone else.

If you forward the text onto 7726 this helps the phone companies to get a pattern and in turn block these numbers.

I think 7726 works for all mobile providers

Good idea - 7726

Here is a quote from Orange... "If you get spam messages, please forward them to 7726 free from your Orange phone. By doing this you are helping Orange to collate information to help reduce spam messages being sent to you and others.

For further details and official information on spam text messages visit the Information Commissioner’s Office"

OK - next time...

O2 also use 7726

O2 use 7726 (spells "SPAM" on traditional phone handsets).

You just need to forward the message, remembering to add the source telephone number to it.  If they get enough requests, they will block the number.

Hope this helps!

"STOP"

I have used "STOP" a few times and they have, as it says, stopped. I haven't had one in 6 months.

The irony is that I keep receiving spam texts from Orange about their cinema deals once a week (even though I left Orange 6 months ago but kept the number on Three) and I've replied with "STOP" but it didn't work. But as its only one, once a week, I can live with it.

unsolicited phone calls and txts

Tps have some info here;
http://www.tpsonline.org.uk/tps/mobile/unsolicitedtextmessages.html

The MOJ is currently doing a consultation on rule tightening for CMCs which
includes tighter controls on unsolicited communications by phone.
http://www.justice.gov.uk/news/press-releases/moj/claims-management-clam...

The ICO is also asking people to report them and are dealing with this.

I recently started a brand new contract

Signed a new sim-only contract on the Sunday at my local vodafone shop. By Monday I had at least 6 of the spam text messages. Vodafone claim it was because they reuse the numbers. I rather suspect that the numbers get sold on. Either way, I replied to each with a choice 2-word phrase. But I won't get anymore on that number because I then transferred my existing number over anyway.

But if you EVER publish your number by way of For Sale/advert in local paper or anywhere, then it is in the public domain and the text spammers are more likely to target you. And according to a program about the very topic on BBC recently, there is very little that anyone can do about that unless there is found to be a criminal enterprise operating behind the spam.
