Anyone used TaxCalc software?

Anyone used TaxCalc software?

Didn't find your answer?

I have only ever used CCH, and looking to move to either IRIS or TaxCalc?

I appreciate IRIS is much more expensive and TaxCalc is a relatively new piece of software...but has anyone used TaxCalc and able to compare it to CCH and/or IRIS please?

Many thanks

Yes and no

I've used Taxcalc for years so not sure why you think it is new. It had an overhaul last year but is still pretty much the same. I like it, in particular the simple step methodology with the option to switch to HMRC forms view at any time. It does all I need for a reasonable price.

Afraid I can't compare to the others as I have never needed them.

I had a look at TaxCalc but just didnt seem to get on with it for some reason so went for BTC instead.  Cant comment on IRIS as Ive never used it but if your considering TaxCalc I would download the trial of BTC and have a look at that too.

Have used Taxpoint (now CCH?) then PTP but now use Taxcalc

I've been in personal tax for twenty-odd years.

When I worked for a larger firm I used Taxpoint which I think is now CCH. Taxpoint was very good, probably expensive and fairly sophisticated. It used to crash regularly but maybe that was down to the server.

When I set up on my own I started with PTP which is good. It never crashed on me and was reliable. I think PTP is now part of IRIS.

I moved to Taxcalc because PTP put their prices up. I got the impression PTP were laughing at me when I said I would move to Taxcalc. But I did and when PTP tried to get me back it was too late  because I could not get out of the Taxcalc contract, which in hindsight was a good thing. It has also never crashed.

Taxcalc is probably the best budget software I have used so far. I cannot remember having any problems. And they have not put their prices up for me for a few years which has helped through the recession. They introduced a more complicated platform which I have not got my head around yet but it may be more helpful in the long run. But Tax Returns can be produced easily.

I have yet to come across the perfect tax software but Taxcalc is almost there.

Hope this helps.

Another Thumbs Up for Taxcalc!

I have not had any experience with either IRIS or BTC. I have been using Taxcalc for the last 5 years and it has never failed me. Note I filed 870 returns in 2012 and just hit 400 for 2013, so far.

There product has won many awards over the years.Their support is first class.

I have not got one bad thing to say about their product.

Buy it you won't regret it. Trust me.

Taxcalc or pertax

I changed from Pertax (renamed CCH, I think) to Taxcalc, after assessing comments on this website.  Value for money and ease of use are terrific, as is the helpline (rarely needed).  For a reasonable price, you get self assessment, partnership, and company whereas before, for over twice the price, it was restricted to individual forms.  Things may have changed in the last four years, but for a small practioner, it's really very good indeed.

you should look to the heavens

i am revaluing all my software with a view to completing paperless and in the cloud. for 99% of my work HMRCs own sotware is absolutely terrific : but if i have to do  the odd other one that  for example is not on my system i use Top Up . if i was to use another software next year it would probably be taxfiler. i believe Taxcalc will go to the cloud but understand that no date is set yet

DO NOT CLICK ON SONIC.MASTER'S LINK!

Dear AccountingWeb members,

I've edited my post from earlier this evening.

For those who are curious, sonic.master had posted a link to a spoof website that was pretending to be the TaxCalc website. The spoof wasn't exactly of great quality but there was a risk that someone out there might have ended up downloading a suspicious executable.

Thankfully, it's gone now.

Kind regards,

Steve Checkley
