The answer is in the HMRC manuals if you Google search.

That is, assuming there are no unusual circumstances that you don't mention.

Thank for nothing Phil.

I am familiar with Google search and HMRC's manuals. I am sure pretty much every question on this forum could be answered via Google / HMRC manuals / Companies Act etc etc.

Surely a yes or no answer would have been easier or even better just ignored it rather than appointing yourself a forum policeman.

Yes or no

As others have indicated, if you ask a question with so little detail, you are unlikely to get a definite answer. (Or will get "it depends", which is nearly as useless)

Just out of curiosity, did the Google search take you more or less time than posting your single line question? Longer than it would take for somebody else to type the response to you? Longer than it would take for them to respond twice when it was pointed out how vague your question was?

for those that are interested

Following on from Phil's advice to take responsibility for my personal learning please see http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/manuals/pimmanual/PIM2066.htm if you have the same question.

In a nut shell - they are deductible.

A valid point

But the half-arsedness of the question has already been determined.

Beat me to it, Red

Trading income?

Property income?

Chargeable gains?

Something else?

(And individual or corporate?)

The season of goodwill commences at the stroke of midnight following Christmas Eve and ends at the stroke of midnight following Christmas Day, as far as I am concerned.

for some reason i am reminded of the Brittas Empire Portia

Brittas volunteered for the Samaritans, they still talk about Black Friday , 3 people sadly took their own lives that day  and one of those was a wrong number.
