backpack

Didn't find your answer?

what rate of VAT would a children's backpack be?

backpacks are child sized and designed only

I'm assuming not 0% as its not clothing or protective equipment

can anyone advise

Must be standard rated!

I can't see any reason why a backpack can be zero rated. There is no list of standard rated items, so there is no statutory reference. It is simply not listed in the zero rated legislation.

It looks like it should be standard rated.

The only possible form of guidance i can see is by using the trade tariff information. It states that rucksacks are subject to the standard rate of vat whereas for example the mens and boys listing for shirts states that it's subject to both the standard rate of vat and also subject to a zero rate of vat.

Standard rated

Lots of things are designed for kids but aren't standard rated.

Toys for instance.

And backpacks.
