I have just taken on a new job, and the previous bookkeeper had let things slide. I've started trying to pull things together from the Bank Recs on Sage, but we're going back a few months. The closing balance on the reports I've pulled are not corresponding with the opening balance on the rec I've started, I am confident they did reconcile. I had to clear the one she had started, as I just couldn't make sense of it. Could that of caused the error?? Any ideas of where to search?? Huge thank you for any suggestions!! x

How about...
I think you have a bank rec that gives you a Sage bank balance at a point in time and this is reconciled to a bank statement balance at a similar date?
I'm then assuming that the Sage bank balance is no longer the same figure as at that date?
You need to find why the Sage balance is different. This could be owing to deleted transactions or transactions posted after that date but dated prior. Export the transactions to excel, eliminate all transactions dated after last reconciliation date, sort by tran reference and create a running cumulative total column. Hopefully one of these totals will agree tally with the figure you are looking for. If not, you will have to consider the deleted transactions.
