Bereavement Benefit

Our client husband sadly passed away in April.

Our clients wife has received a Bereavement benefit coding form. (P161) W.

We may be a little out of date as thankfully we are not very involved in this but understood that this type of benefit was normally tax free. We can not understand why we would receive this in this case.

The only thing we can think of is that it is dependent on the level of income as the spouse a good level of savings.
