Boffin of the Year

Boffin of the Year

Didn't find your answer?

As part of our 2013 Community Awards programme, we want to know who has been the most intelligent, reliable and expert member of AccountingWEB this year.

Last year, money laundering and fraud expert David Winch scooped the recognition as 2012's Boffin of the Year, beating members Steve Kesby and Paul Scholes to the title.

But who will be voted the most technical and experienced member of the community this year?

If you've got an AccountingWEB member in mind, leave a comment below with their username, which will count as a vote.

You can also vote for a member already mentioned in a comment by clicking 'thanks'. The member with the highest amount of mentions/thanks will be voted the winner and receive a Christmas gift from our sponsors at Clear Books.

The winner will be announced in the 20 December email bulletin.

Euan MacLennan

I always admire David Winch for his expertise in his specialist field, and his constant willingness to share that expertise.

But for more general all-round information that I always feel I can rely on, Euan gets my vote.

Euan

I agree with stepurhan.

Also he doesn't suffer fools gladly, a trait I find admirable in an accountant and a boffin.

Hard choice

Agree with a lot about re Euan, Paul Scholes and Johngroganjga but my vote has to go to Steve Kesby.

Knowledge is supreme and the effort he puts into his replies are appreciated.

Horses for courses

Steve Kesby for expert tax advice

Fawltybasil for punctilliously correct essay writing

John Grogan for answering everything

Stepurhan for persistence in arguing with the naysayers

Seems much harder to vote this year!

My vote goes to Steve Kesby. As mentioned by JCresswell, he really does put the effort in to his replies.

Euan, John Grogan, and Paul Scholes and David Winch are right up there though.

Spidersong

Well, thanks to all who've voted for or said something positive about me. It's much appreciated. It was nice to know I featured in people's fantasies recently too! :)

As Sheepy306 observes I can end up spending some time here some days. I do it for my own learning though, and it's nice to interact with the many other tax and accountancy nerds; the regulars like BKD, Eaun, Paul, John, Basil and the less regular, MBK, gbuckell and David Massey.

Some of the questions from the likes of people like Blok, Constantly Confused and others are great too.

One of the areas where I'm still learning most though is VAT, and I get a lot out of comments made in the area by BKD, Les, Shaun and others. I get most though out of one contributor in particular and that's Spidersong. So that's where my vote goes.

I've heard that the prize this year is the book "199 Tax Deductions - Everything the Taxman Doesn't Want You to Know About".

by Steve Kesby.

Bulk votes from parallel thread

We've had some cross-over votes due to some confusion about the wording of our Tech(nology) Champion of the Year thread (all our fault - sorry). Just to keep members here in the loop, we'll repost some of the key comments so you know why people have gone for a particular member. We'll also add in the following anonymous votes/thanks from that thread (original authors/times will be retained, but they might be slightly out of sequence).

Here's how the bulk votes went:

Euan McLennan ("He's always answered my post," says Mrshamilton. "I really appreciate it Euan.") - 6 votes

David Winch - ("He really knows his stuff") - 4 votes in response to Mrme's nomination

Difficult to decide
Hi I think this can be quite difficult to chose just one person from a bunch of experts who have their expertise in different areas. I like reading posts by Paul Scholes,Euan, fawltybasil, shirleyM,mouse and many more.... Anyway,my vote for this year goes to fawltybasil2575.

For Me Euan and Steve:  Euan for his humility. He does not patronise people. He sticks to the issue at hand and does not get involved in arguments. People should feel free to ask any questions with out being judged about their knowledge, educational background and qualifications. That is how a forum should be.

Not an easy one, as I can think of lots of contributors that take the time and effort to answer questions, however... my vote to Steve Kesby please.  His posts are always well written and very informative, and I have learned a lot from them.

Thank you.
