Can a Part Qualified ACCA complete annual accounts?

Can a Part Qualified ACCA complete annual...

Didn't find your answer?

Hi All

I was just wandering if I could get some advice. I am a part qualified ACCA who has completed 12 of the 14 ACCA papers. I am currently still studying but I work in a Chartered Accountancy Practice.

A friend of mine has approached me asking whether I could do his accounts for him and I am not sure whether this is feasible based on where I am with my studies. The company is not complicated and I know I can do them but I am not sure whether it is allowed.

Also if it is feasible would I need to get any sort of insurance to protect both parties as I know practices have to have liability insurance?

Any advice and guidance would be very much appreciated.

Kind regards

Melissa

First

Examine the ACCA rulebook. You'll find you can't do this.

No,you can't do it....

Simply put, you can't do it.  The ACCA rulebook is a veritable minefield for anyone not holding a practising certificate and thinking about doing someone's books.

Depends

I will go (partly) against the opinions expressed so far and offer a different view. The ACCA recognises that its members will be asked by friends and family for help, so see HERE for the Honorary Work Exemption, such work is not considered practising so you can go beyond the usual book keeping only restriction.

You can do it, but only as a favour, no payment, no making it look like your a practising accountant. Whether this would constitute a problem for your employer depends on how restrictive your contract is and what kind of employer they are I guess, but that is a different matter.

Yes you can

The answer of course depends on what you mean by 'allowed'.

As you may find, it is not a crime for anybody to call themselves an 'accountant', regardless of qualifications.

If however you mean 'allowed by ACCA', the posters above have already commented.
