Can't find a good web address

Can't find a good web address

Didn't find your answer?

Hi guys,

I've been looking to extend my offering into the big wide world of online - but the name that I want to use has already been registered.

Every time I come up with something I like the sound of, somebody has already registered it. What sort of things has anybody found are good from a web marketing perspective?

Thanks

BananaMan

New suffixes

I've just been through exactly the same thing. Every domain name I thought sounded good had been taken!

I spoke to a company called Greennet who advised me on my options for setting up a business domain name and email.  They informed me that some new suffixes have recently been introduced such as ".london" and ".wales" which opens up a whole new array of potential names. So where as you might not have been able to have "bananaman.co.uk" you might be able to have "bananaman.london". They suggested I tried checking "WHOIS" to see whether the name I wanted had been taken.

Good luck with your search!

Web address. PWC Prisoners of War?

dot co dot UK is relatively inexpensive.

Look at UK2.net - for what I've found that over about 15 years to be a reliable and inexpensive host.

They don't seem to try to sell you the other stuff, like everything linked to Microsoft, Apple, Facebook, Twitter etc.

Be creative. Advertising agencies come up with all sorts of lunatic names that eventually become household words.

James Coburn and Co is a bit boring. Set up your brand and be a bit dangerous, yet remaining professional

Price Waterhouse are PWC. Prisoner War Camp. That sounds about correct.for most employees, all that seems to have worked in the brand name business.

Best wishes

You can always offer to buy …

If you find your chosen domain name already taken then do a bit or research – it may not be in use – simply domain camping taking place

At which point you can always see if it’s for sale or make an offer to buy it

Not sure about additional suffixes – just another way of registrars charging for other options. Put yourself in the role of someone looking for your services – what search criteria would you put into Google to look yourself up

Historically there used to be an order of precedence and also uses of domains – i.e. broadly speaking

.com – top of the tree.co.uk – country of origin – generally appears first nowadays in a search.net – providers.org – charities

If you possibly can get both the .com & also the .co.uk then it is worthwhile

Finally – watch out for unintended howlers - http://www.boredpanda.com/worst-domain-names/

If its only UK stuff look at Nominet whois
