It is a long time since I had to notify the withdrawal of any company car from an employee and of course everything's changed vis a vis HMRC.
Company has sold the company car, and director won't be buying another via the company. He ceased using the car on 9th April 2015. In order to stop HMRC whacking on enormous taxes to his next pay, as we want him to be on the payroll, I tried to set up a P46 saying car had been withdrawn with no replacement in tax year 2015/16.
I get a big red notice saying P11D will be good enough to notify, and don't use P46.
Problem with that is that even when I finish off and file P11D, HMRC won't take any notice for months.
What else can I do to get his tax code from 9th April adjusted?

Is he the client or the company?
Is he registered for SA Online?
If he's registered for SA Online and you/he can find the 15-16 coding notice you should be able to use the "Tell HMRC your tax code is wrong" link on HMRC.Gov.UK I think. Otherwise a phone call by him if he's not the client, or you if you're his agent
What software are you using?
Moneysoft let me do exactly what you want last month - P46 company car notification change submitted online with cessation date. Employee has already had his tax code amended.
New system
There's a new system for updating details of company cars here.
I've never used it thoughso can't say how good it is!
