Cert of residence for an individual

Cert of residence for an individual

Didn't find your answer?

I have just been trying to fill out an online application for a certificate confirming UK resident status for a client, requested by a French bank with whom he has some dealings.

What a palava!

For those with the time and interest, if you did not already know, the application form is here

https://online.hmrc.gov.uk/shortforms/form/PT_CertOfRes?dept-name=&sub-d...

If the purpose of the questions in the form was to undertake an SRT check, then I would kind of sympathise.  But the form excludes most of the questions that would be relevant to the SRT and instead include a lot of questions that have no bearing on the test. So why ask all these questions? UK resident status is a question of fact, and I see no reason why HMRC needs to know the purpose of the request for confirmation, or his inside leg measurement, simply in order to provide that confirmation of fact. Why not just accept that if we are requesting it, it is for a reason other than just wasting everyone's time.

Oh, well, just a general moan really.

With kind regards
