CGT on multiple sell buy transactions within 30 days

CGT on multiple sell buy transactions within 30...

Didn't find your answer?

The B&B rules are usually illustrated using a S104 holding from which a sale is made followed by a single purchase within 30 days. This is straightforward but how does one calculate the situation where more than one purchase is made within the 30 day period and embedded within this period is another sale? Here is a scenario.

On 1st January 2014 Mr Jones has a S104 holding of 1000 shares in company X valued at £1000

On 1st March he sells 500 shares for £600

On 3rd March he buys 200 shares for £150

On 4th March he buys 100 shares for £90

On 5th March he sells 400 shares for £450

On 20th March he buys 500 shares for £350

On 30th March he sells 900 shares for £1300

On 1st April April he buys 500 shares for £600

On 1st June he buys 350 shares for £500

Any advice much appreciated.

Possible answer?

The on-line CGT calculator at www.cgtalculator.com produces a series of calculations showing how the FIFO rules operate around this scenario and I have used that to create the CGT results I need. If anyone is aware of failings in that calculator I would like to hear.
