Changing to the Flat Rate scheme

Changing to the Flat Rate scheme

Didn't find your answer?

If a business is in its first year of registration for VAT and it is preparing an annual return and it discovers that it is more beneficial to the business to change to the flat rate scheme, can it backdate its registration to the FRS to when it originally registered?

Company registered for VAT in January and is considering changing now in October, no VAT returns have been prepared or filed and the first is due up to January 2014.

Thanks

Back dating

This is subject to HMRC discretion.  Normally they will backdate back to the beginning of the current quarter.

I suggest that you submit the FRS600 and state "to be effective from {the date of registration} ".  However if you are hoping to push the registration date backwards you need to write and ask and at the same time attach the FRS6000 with from the date of registration written in the correct portion.

Let us know if you are sucessful
