I thought this would be easy to determine but I haven't been able to find any documentation to indicate whether a CIC can file abbreviated accounts if it satisfies the same requirements as a limited company would need for filing abbreviated accounts.
I emailed Companies House, who then asked the Regulator of Company Interest Companies who have now passed it back to the Registrar of Companies!
Does anyone know or can point to any relevant guidance please?
Of course given that it is a CIC there is an argument for full accounts anyway in the public interest but I would be interested.
Many thanks

CIC - Abbreviated Accounts
I've just checked on a known (but since dissolved - inactive) CIC and find that Abbreviated Accounts have been submitted for them to Companies House a few years ago.
Abbreviated accounts are acceptable
From Companies House - Community Interest Companies are no different from other companies when it comes to preparing and filing accounts
It's right there - easily found in the current guidance - so someone is being rather lazy.
Don't forget
To enclose Form CIC 34 and the £15 feeThank you both for your replies.
I guess from the lack of anything to the contrary it can be assumed that abbreviated accounts can be filed although unlike other companies we can't file them electronically.
Surprising that neither Companies House or the Office of the Regulator of Community Interest Companies could confirm. I will post their response when they get back to me.
Thanks again and have a good weekend.
Done this
I've filed abbreviated accounts for a CIC - no problem. They're not particularly special in terms of filing requirements apart from - as my learned friend qhas says - the additional requirement to file form CIC34 and the fee. Oh - and remember you can't file online. Has to be by post. Or by hand you live near enough.
So, actually, Companies House are wrong ...
... when they say that there is no difference when it comes to "... filing of accounts".
Though I believe them when they say there is no difference in their preparation.
