I refer to your recent electronic application for refund of VAT.

In order to advance/process this application we require the following

1) The original hardcopy invoices to be forwarded to this office for viewing

2) An explanation, via e-mail, as to how these costs were incurred and the precise nature of your activities in this State.

As a fellow Irish citizen I find my country's attitude to VAT refunds somewhat bewildering.

I assume this pedantry is to delay as long as possible and to put in places hurdles to prevent payment. I would have hope that the opposite would have been the case.

Why is the original invoice necessary in this day and age when almost all transactions are carried out electronically. You have already been sent pdfs. Why do require the original?

If you are after evidence would it not be better to ask the Convention Centre in Dublin direct , this seems the best solution from an evidential point of view.

I know this is not your fault but part of procedure!

Thanks for your time

Many thanks for your mail

Your application was received in this office 08/05/2013.

In order to process this Revenue requires some further information, namely below mail previously sent.

Unfortunately Southern Ireland Revenue does not receive or request PDF attachments with applications submitted. If documentation is requested for viewing, then the original documentation is usually mailed for.

Every country has different rules regarding what is acceptable evidence to allow a repayment of VAT to non resident companies. Wait until you try and recover VAT incurred in Italy!!
