Claiming VAT and missing receipts

Claiming VAT and missing receipts

Didn't find your answer?

Can I claim VAT on business expenses paid by credit card or direct debits if the receipts/invoices are missing?

Thank you in advance for your help.

But

How much effort would HMRC be willing to make when a person isn't bothering to obtain proper documentation?

How many ?

How many of these bills are missing ?

All of them ?  Or just a few ?

Generally, I think you can claim - but be prepared for HMRC to disallow any iffy items.

A few receipts are missing each month. The owner said that he doesn't know where they are but he wants to claim the vat on all of them. I'm recording on Sage all his expenses for the whole year.

I wouldn't worry too much.  There's only buttons involved.

VAT on expense

What makes you think there is VAT on the expense?
