My client spent a lot of time travelling back and forth fixing up his investment property.
Is it possible to claim mileage or travel expenses in this situation?

Pretty sure
That you can't claim mileage against Capital Gains. Now whether there are other claims ....
Off topic slightly
If the property was bought with the sole intention of renovating and selling, then it wouldn’t be a capital gain anyway.
Up side

The up side of this is that you would be able to claim his mileage against his income tax.
