Client switching accountants

Client switching accountants

Didn't find your answer?

Hello everyone

So a client has decided to switch accountants.

He has been trading in a Ltd co since Dec 13 so we haven't really done anything yet except weekly payroll.  Client phoned me to say that he will be using different accountant starting immediately and if i could close his existing company.  I asked why.  Response not forthcoming ( so i assume some bills under the Ltd co that he cant pay) - there appears no money laundering issues.

So far client has already closed old bank account and opened new one in the new Ltd co.

1) If I apply for the old co to be struck off, is there any problem - does it necessarily need to be liquidated the proper way.

2) Do the accounts for Dec 13 to date need to be filed?

look forward to a response, if some experienced adviser wants to give up 15mins of their time to talk to me over the phone, then I would welcome that

Thanks

Send him info to do it himself

If he is no longer a client, I'd write him a quick letter thanking him for his business to date, confirming you are no longer acting as the company's agent, and tell him if he traded during the period he is responsible for submitting the company accounts and any outstanding CT returns.

You could also send him a DS01 form so he can sign it and strike the company off himself.  (HMRC may oppose it if there are outstanding returns, but realistically if it's a first year they often don't bother).

Either way, it's off your desk and you can work on keeping the rest of your clients happy!
