Companies House and Identity Theft Issues

Companies House and Identity Theft Issues

Didn't find your answer?

Not something I had considered before, but one of my clients is concerned that to register as a Director of a company they have to include their Date of Birth.

This info is then available to download from Cos House free of charge.

This seems to be a major issue re the problem of Identity Theft, and I cannot see why it has to be made available by Companies House.

Has anyone else considered this?

Thanks

Darren

What's the risk?

As it is recommended in law that an under 18 isn't a director of a company this seems a sensible thing to ask? Incidentally companies can't have directors under the age of 16 appointed. After all the director does not have to provide his residential address on the public record anymore since CA2006 came into force. So unless the director has a really unusual name and someone can be bothered to piece together other information about your client from the phone book or a google search the ID theft risk would appear small.
