Correcting a mistake on HMRC RTI

Correcting a mistake on HMRC RTI

Didn't find your answer?

Hi everyone

I have made mistake submitting the FPS on HMRC RTI PAYE tool.

The employee left the job on 15/04/2015 so I should have sent the last FPS on 15/04/2015 but instead I put 15/05/2015.

Now when I try to correct the error by sending a new FPS it won’t allow me it says that the date you have entered is not valid. The payment date must be after the date of the last payment to this employee. Please amend your entry.

Can anyone help me with this please?

Probably one for...

... the RTI corrections team.

I had an issue which couldn't be corrected "normally" so had to ring, write and wait... for an absolute age (lets say it related to 2013/14, was reported to HMRC in May 2014 and they finally corrected in it April 2015!).

However, are you saying you need to file any more returns between 15/4 and 15/5? Do you have more than one employee that you need to pay now/ in future?

Assuming you have have no other employees, have issued a P45 dated 15/5 and that the employee is on an accumulative coding and that you've not messed around the NI (for example by having one "month" in April and "one" month in May as opposed to two "months" in April, I wouldn't worry too much). RTI works on YTD values so, as long as your YTD figures are correct and the amount you have paid your employee is correct, your RTI filing will also be correct.

If you've deducted too little tax from your employee as a result, this will be correct in their next employment which they may not like but, that's unfortunately how it works... they've already had the benefit.

Hope this helps?

Roll back

If there are consequences DKB has not covered the easiest solution is to go back to the point immediately before 15/4/15, the online help team will be able to tell you how if you don't know  where the back ups are stored,  re-enter and resubmit. The drawback to this is how many other people will have to be re-entered at the same time as a roll back affects the whole payroll
