Credit Card Fees in a Retail Business

Credit Card Fees in a Retail Business

Didn't find your answer?

Hi, I'm sorry to be asking a very simple question but I've recently started working with a retail business - a shop and restaurant.  I don't have huge experience in this business area, and one point that has come up is the credit card fees they are charged - should this be treated as a cost of sale or overhead?  I believe it should be a cost of sale but can see the argument for both, I just wanted to check if there was an industry 'norm'.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Generally treated as overheads - within the same section as bank charges if using Sage.
