Yesterday there was a post about a certain accountancy firm and whether or not it had 27,000 clients. Today it says I'm "not authorised to view this page". What's happened? Have they been in touch complaining, or does talking about a firm by name break the rules?

Probably means that the mods have
either pulled it as not really relevant (I can't say as I did not see it) or have hidden it whilst they review it because someone has reported it as against site rules

Google "27000" and "accountingweb" for a cached version if you badly want to read it.
.
It was a pretty rude post (I know I was rude in it too!).
SIFT probably wont want to take the risk of some sort of slander.
.
I do?
"I am not a lawyer", as I preface many an email to a client.
usually swiflty followed by "you can tell as I don't charge £300 an hour"
I'm Sorry I Haven't a Clue Either...
... although I suspect slander's the spoken word; libel's the written.
That's correct
... although I suspect slander's the spoken word; libel's the written.
... Although a good defence against slander is the truth. I wonder how truthful the 27,000 clients claim was ... or indeed the "24/7 service" claim in the window. Who said accountants don't have a sense of humour!

And why are they giving us the thumbs-up? The thumbs-up gesture traditionally is an offensive Muslim insult!
Well Thumbed

The website isn't specifically aimed at muslims (as far as I'm aware) and, in English speaking countries, thumbs-up is generally a sign of approval.
No, no; I guess the website's aimed at the indiginous populace as there's a Union Jack on the front page.
I googled "thumbs-up" and "Scotland" and see what you mean: "Alex Salmond Gives Independence the Thumbs Up"; "Davey gives thumbs-up to new Hitachi nuclear reactor at Wylfa"; and "Scotland's First Deaf Youth Centre gets a BIG Thumbs Up". All of which must be rather confusing for Scottish Muslims.
Precognition
If I remember correctly, about the second or third post on the original thread suggested that it would be deleted soon - so kudos to whoever said that!
As for the official word, my suggestion would be to PM Dan Izzard as he is the most likely to have pulled the thread. He may be happy to explain why...he may also do so here...

Nope, not me
.. and I can't remember who it was.
The only post I made was to wonder if I could use them as a subbie for my sole traders, and pay them £8.34 per month for collection, delivery, and all the work required.
Oops
no JCresswell ... hey ho.. and I can't remember who it was.

political correctness
gone mad
accountancy web moderators should get out more
yea some silly replies that made me laugh .. but the firm in question made some silly claims as well , like 27,000 clients serviced from a 2 bed terrace ?
and their accounts show they were insolvent .. that's aint slander .. cause its true

Lets be honest the thread descended as many do from a bit of incredulation/fun to pretty blunt p?ss taking and including too many personal references.
Sift were just covering themselves.

You're right, Kent. An apolgy is in order: I'm sorry I called you Pop Larkin.
Apology
Eh?
No offence taken, this hide is too thick.
Pop Larkin - missed the reference first time:)
Btw - it was filmed about 15 miles from me.
Lets face it - if all firms were regulated this sort of tosh wouldn't be given the time of day.

There are reports of your driving a tractor round an allotment :)

All part of the rich pageant that is Friday.
I guess in a way all firms are regulated because of Money Laundering Supervision; maybe as a first step there should be a central point to check whether a firm is indeed "supervised" (even if by HMRC), say along the lines of the Information Commissioner's public databank.
closed down ?
maybe it was closed down by the council because of overcrowding
personally I don't believe clients would be anywhere near 27,000... unless... perhaps they counted all the relatives as well
