Digita Tax Return

Digita Tax Return

Didn't find your answer?

Has anyone seen the email from Digita detailing errors in tax calculations 2013/14 for CGT, HIBC, Loss relief and remittance base charge. If so, short of going through every calculation for both years, has anyone come up with a simple method of identifying potentially affected clients?

As I read the email

Reading the email HMRC have discovered errors in their calculations in certain areas - not Digita - so if you did not amend a return to match HMRC's erroneous result there is no problem.

The first area is non-dom's paying the remittance basis charge. HMRC's calculations use the nominated income figure which has impacted on CGT, HIBC, restricted allowances, top slicing etc This means that you cannot file amended returns electronically so HMRC have added exclusions to the mandatory filing rules to allow paper amendments up to 31/1.

The second area is loss relief where HMRC have agreed that you should calculate available relief before using losses brought forward. Again this is dealt with by exclusion as you will have to send in a manual return.

If you follow the links in Digita's email there are scripts to put in Query Manager and / or SQLManagement Studio to identify any clients affected and presumably other software providers will do similar information dispersals but the areas are so specific most of us will not be affected at all.

Ahh, you're right. I didn't read it that way. but on a re-read, I see now.

I didn't work here for the 2014 Returns, and so couldn't say whether we would have any affected clients, and so pointing me to the queries was a big help, thank you.
