Distance selling and VAT - agents in the EU

Distance selling and VAT - agents in the EU

Didn't find your answer?

I have a client who will be breaching distance selling thresholds in several EU member states in the new year. Has anyone any experience using agents in other territories to register and / or complete VAT returns. Any helpful advice or comments as this is not something I have had to deal with in the past.

I have come across this company on the web. Any comments or experieince?

We are in a similar situation and have looked at TMF and Meridian but the costs seem so high.

This legislation seems very onerous on a smallish business doing business in a few EU member states. We probably need to register in 8 or 9 other countries, which, after registration, means accounting for VAT in that many languages on a quarterly basis, or more frequent, and possibly being subject to inspection/audit in a foreign language.

We already account for VAT in the UK and that is onerous enough but to have to do roughly 10 times the amount of work seems ridiculous. I thought we were meant to be part of an economic union and that trading between member states was supposed to be easy.

I am therefore looking at alternative ways of overcoming this burden, including operating our business from overseas.

Does anyone have any clever solutions?
