Does anyone else use a seasonal work system in their practice?

Does anyone else use a seasonal work system in...

Didn't find your answer?

Our practice wants to implement a seasonal working scheme because we tend to get busy periods from October to January then quiet periods from February to March.  It will be compulsory for all accounts staff to work 41.5 hours per week from October to January instead of 37.5.  We then bank these hours to be taken as flexi or holidays in the quiet periods (Feb/Mar) however we can't take more that 2 of these days in one go.  Our contracts are going to be changed to reflect this.

When the partner explained this to us he mentioned that a lot of other firms currently do this as they have recognised the seasonal nature of accountancy work.  I was wondering if any of you do this and how big your firm is?

Heard of it but never encountered it

An ex-colleague of mine (in tax) now does a 4 day week (8hrs/day) from beginning of April to 3rd week of August, then 5 day week (8.75hrs/day) for the rest of the year.  I think they're something like 16 partners

Annual hours for tax staff
When I last worked in practice the tax department trialled an annual hours contract which is a variation of the systems mentioned above. It makes sense as they have nothing to do in February yet not enough hours in the day in January

Not sure if its still in place
