Definitely Moneysoft

Definitely agree with Moneysoft Payroll Manager.  Copes with CIS as well, I've used it for years without any complaints.

All software is RTI compliant

All UK payroll software handles PAYE, which includes RTI, so all UK payroll software has been RTI compliant from 2013/14 onwards.

Your question is therefore reduced to "what is reasonably priced software?".  Moneysoft costs £112 + VAT a year for unlimited companies of up to 100 employees/sub-contractors each.  It is undercut (just) by 12Pay which costs £109.90 + VAT a year, provided you don't want the facility to file monthly CIS returns, which costs an extra £28.

Another vote for Moneysoft. And thank you, because you've just reminded me that I came on here to look up a query, and not just to banter!!

Easiest to use payroll software (out of 5 used)

For RTI filing I have used the following software so far:

12payMoneysoftHMRC basic toolsBrightpayPegasus Opera 2

The list is arranged such that most frequently used software is at the bottom of the list and least frequently used software product at the top.

In theory any user would find easiest to use and therefore recommend the most frequently used software product.  In my case I don't see that applies.   I have found Brightpay to be the easiest and most intuitive software product to use, I believe that the cost is £89 for one employer (more than 3 employees).  Brightpay is free for upto 3 employees.

Online and white labelled

I'm looking for online software that I can white label i.e. branded as if its my firm's product  so clients can access information via my website.  I'm using MyPAYE, which is OK but not great, does anyone know of any others?

Payroll software

I have been using Superpay for the last 25 years. Excellent and very easy to use. Network version, 250 employers, unlimited employees. But little bit expensive.

We use Moneysoft which is very good but ...
... the software isn't perfect. Couple of problems:
1. All employees with the same pay frequency have to be paid the same day ie you can only allocate one pay date for all monthly employees and subcontractors even if some are paid different dates.
2. If you amend data then view again a previously filed RTI, the software will show how the report would look with the updated data and not what the filing actually contained. So you need to print everything immediately after filing.
3. Moneysoft tax-monthly reports only state the first month of the period so the reports to 5 April 2014 will be labelled ‘Mar-14’. So ‘Jan-14’ is the month to 5 February and not 5 January.
Other than these issues the software is very easy to use, very reasonably priced and support is good.

Not really problems

Comments:

Run separate payrolls for the different paydates, but with the same employer details and PAYE references. That is probably why the program prompts you to print the report when you close the RTI filing screen and also, locks the pay period, so you have to unlock it before amending anything.  What I find irritating about amending an RTI report is that you cannot print off the successful submission report for a second RTI report, although the RTI summary does show the date of the last report filed.Agreed.  If they have to abbreviate the tax month, I would prefer them to state it as M10 instead of Jan-14 and also, print the paydate on the reports.  However, the real problem is that we have stuck with the quaint tradition of ending the tax month on the 5th and the tax year on 5th April, when almost everyone else in the world uses the calendar periods.

"However, the real problem is that we have stuck with the quaint tradition of ending the tax month on the 5th and the tax year on 5th April, when almost everyone else in the world uses the calendar periods."

But that's not going to change this century :)

Payroll - 12Pay

I started with 12Pay by chance and have never had reason to change. I've used it for several years, very easy - I run multiple companies and CIS.

Year end this year was a snip, 5 minute job.

and they are very responsive to queries - when I email a question I generally get an answer within 5 minutes - and they are open to suggestions for a "Wish List" and do action it if it's a good idea

No critism of Moneysoft - I've never had reason to use it

Moneysoft v Iris

Excellent timing for this post.

Just received Iris renewal for their 20 Company suite at £455 plus VAT.

Would we miss anything in changing - we just migrated to Iris when they took over PAYE Master some years ago but the prices steadily increase!

12Pay

further to my original post, I've just had reason to email 12pay - reply recieved in less that 2 minutes

and

there's a really nice report in 12Pay - if you're running a payroll bureau for small clients - (it might be available in other payroll systems, but I haven't had reason to look in other systems)

Rolling year summaries -

so the payroll year is April to March - but the company year end might be say Sept 30,

The rolling year report will give you a summary of costs - ie gross pay, NIer and tax & NI payable for the any company year end period - very neat and tidy - it makes verifying the payroll entries for the company year end very quick and easy

Prices for me - bureau - unlimited companies - £110 + vat per annum with an additional £28 + vat for CIS add on. (December 13)

Moneysoft

We were a very happy TAS payroll user until RTI came in and Sage (the new owner of TAS) decided not to support RTI for TAS Payroll.  So forced to use Sage payroll.  Hated it with a passion.  Very cumbersome old and tired software which has not kept upto date.  Made life so difficult trying to get decent reports.

Read the many recommendations for Moneysoft and instantly loved it.  Amazing software, cut out hours of time in preparing payroll for our clients.  Love the batch RTI processor.

Easy to use and you will be up and running in a very short time.  the only thing it does not cater for is recording holidays taken in hours, as it only  records holidays in half and full days. But this is easily overcome my setting the pay tabs to record holiday hours so not the end of the world.

Glad we moved to Moneysoft, would not think of changing again and very good value for money.
