Dormant accounts and VT

Dormant accounts and VT

Didn't find your answer?

In the dormant accounts facility of VT, the director's report says 'The company is dormant and has not traded during the period or subsequent to the period end' (my bold type).

I don't get the bold type - does this mean that if trading commenced after the period-end then the company loses the right to file dormant accounts for the previous period? I can't see that Companies House AA02 addresses this.

Thank you.

Irrelevant statement

A company can file dormant accounts for an accounting period if it has no financial transactions during that period (apart from subscription for the share capital).  There is nothing in the Companies Act to prevent the company filing dormant accounts if it had transactions subsequent to the accounting date.

I don't understand why VT would include this statement in the Directors' Report.  Can you not delete it?

Yes it can be deleted

Thanks Euan.

It seems a very strange statement to make. I infer from it that if trading has commenced before the previous year's dormant accounts have been filed a differently worded director's report should be used, but I can not see that VT has supplied an alternative.

Image is of a pin up style woman in a red dress with some of her skirt caught in the filing cabinet. She looks surprised.

VT dormant accounts?

I didn't even know it did them. Now you can file direct with CoHo, this is good to know :D Though I'm not sure it's quicker than the CoHo form, given how brief it is.

Yep

When you click to create a new accounts workbook 'dormant accounts' is on the list of templates to choose from.

VT Accounts

I have used this software for years particularly as it is so flexible.  If you are unhappy with the wording of a particular report, amend or delete.  I also agree with Monsoon, Companies House has templates for dormant accounts which are even quicker and easier than VT - use them - they are free !!

I have also used VT for years. It's not a question of being unhappy with it. I just want to know if it is correct and if it isn't, why it is the default statement in the director's report.
