Dropbox/Google Cloud practice considerations

Dropbox/Google Cloud practice considerations

Didn't find your answer?

Hello

We are considering getting on the cloud file storage/access game.

I use dropbox personally for photos etc, but I am concerned of the security of dropbox/google drive if we consider using it for clients/work.

Why isn't encryption used as part of the software? (BTW, I'm not brilliant at IT).

From looking up on the web, it suggests various software that will encrypt the files in dropbox etc.

Has anyone any guidance or preferences? Comments would be most appreciated.

Thanks

Covered many ... many .. times on Aweb ...

Search for dropbox on Aweb or better still try a Google search on 'accountingweb dropbox'

A Google search for Aweb threads is far better than Awebs own internal search

Bitcasa

I have been experimenting with using Bitcasa http://www.bitcasa.com/

The pros are that it is cheap (£79 per year), easy to use and has limitless storage.

I tried to obtain experience/views of other AWebers recently - but have not received any comments.

I've been using ...
Boxcryptor since the beginning of this year and have been very impressed by it.

Everything gets encrypted using 256 bit AES in real time, which to my knowledge not even the NSA and GCHQ have broken yet.

You could also try www.tresorit.com which is also supposed to be NSA/GCHQ-proof.

What about IRIS OpenSpace

Have a look at IRIS OpenSpace (www.irisopenspace.co.uk).  You dont have to be an IRIS user to be able to use it but it does add significant benefits of being able to upload at the point of producing a tax return or set of accounts.

Also, it has e-approval built in which is really helpful.

Richard

P.S. We are IRIS users but not employees or anything.
