E-Magazines and pdfs

E-Magazines and pdfs

Didn't find your answer?

Is it only me that finds e-magazine format (which is supposed to look like a paper magazine or newspaper) and pdfs (along with two-column formats which require scrolling up and down) far less convenient than e-bulletins, which have headlines, links to each article and links back to the top?

The ICAEW web site is terrible for putting all its "helpful" information on pdfs. Is it just laziness? E-magazines seem to be the opposite, showing off someone's wonderful skills at the expense of utility.

.pdfs preferred here

Pdf format I find easy to download and store.

Not too bad for reading either.

Easy to word search as well.

I have seen some "eMagazines" online but didn't like the format.

So my preference is:

Best = .pdf

If pdf not available then html

Worst = eMagazines

The above goes for tax guidance (both commercial services for this as well as HMRC).

Two-column pdfs

@DMGbus - Doesn't the two-column format bother you? All that scrolling up and down?

Screen viewing pdfs

My desktop computer has a 27 inch screen so I don't usually have issues with viewing pdfs on it.  In any case I can zoom in or out easily when viewing a pdf on screen and move the pdf viewing window up, down, left or right on the screen.

This is very much a personal preference thing.  I often make pdf copies of webpages to store them for reference and then read  / refer to / word search at a later date.
