Employee subsistence

Employee subsistence

Didn't find your answer?

My client (sole shareholder/director) works away from home under the temp work place rules.

He pays rent to a friend for a flat. He does his weekly shop at Tesco. He will also eat out sometimes.

Does he qualify for relief on all these expenses?

Can he use the HMRC benchmark scale rates? This would give him much more relief compared to a weekly shop. Or are these rates meant only for one-off days away from the office? Or can they be applied to a longer term?

HMRC benchmark scale rates:

DescriptionAmount (up to)Breakfast rate£5One meal (5 hour) rate£5Two meal (10 hour) rate£10Late evening meal rate£15
