Employing a carer

Employing a carer

Didn't find your answer?

We have a client that suffered a major injury at work and they will now rely on care for the rest of their lives.  They are considering employing a carer directly and as a result I know that they will have to register as an employer with HMRC, make the necessary PAYE deductions, get employers liability insurance, etc.  What I am unsure of is whether or not there is any kind of tax relief that they may be entitled to as a result of the payments they are making.

The client received a substantial pay out which will more than cover the costs and I am unaware of any potential income tax relief but it would be nice if I could be reassured that I am not missing something here.

Thanks in advance to all who can assist.

Not as far ...

Not as far as I am aware.  That's rough on people funding care from taxed incomed (eg pension) but your client is funding from a "pay out" so that should (it is hoped) cover the whole cost.  Or put another way, your clent won't have borne the gross costs for which tax relief isn't, in fact, available.
