Just had an email from Custom Forms with prices to buy P60. Are HMRC not providing them for free this year?

Are you sure?
I would have thought that HMRC would have 2011/12 forms P60 available to order as in previous years. It is just that they have not got round to the 2011/12 year-end yet. Everything on their website refers to 2010/11.
print on plain paper
The P60 produced by Moneysoft Payroll Manager (and probably many other software packages too) is accredited by HMRC, and so you can print directly on plain paper, in black and white or in colour.
You can also choose to create a pdf version for issue to each employee instead, which is now (from 2011-12) an acceptable alternative.
The forms that are not available are the P60/P14 sets used before online filing.
P60s are fine though - from the link provided on page 9, left column, last paragraph:-
"We will continue to provide the P60(Continuous) and P60(SingleSheet) forms on paper and you can scan these forms and overlay them with your employees’ details "
Every year we get plagued by calls from Business Stationery Direct and various other suppliers trying to sell us P60s "specifically for TAS Payroll/QuickBooks" etc
Just for info ...
... IRIS (Earnie) prints plain paper P60's, which on a reasonable colour printer look fine, and if you only have a few to do are probably easier as you don't have to worry about alignment issues!
