Filing tax return for 2011/12

Filing tax return for 2011/12

Didn't find your answer?

A client has contacted me to say she has retired from work and now wants to request a refund of any tax overpaid for 2011/12 tax year.

She has no intention of getting another job and has a P45 dated June 2011. (no other income, no pensions etc)

How can I file an early return?

Do I need to contact HMRC and file a paper one?

Try form P50

From memeory I think there is a form available from the HMRC website called a P50 that allows you to reclaim tax mid-year provided you do not intend to work again within that tax year. I filed it twice before when my sisters were going travelling mid-way through the tax year. Worked fine but i think it may have taken around 4 weeks to get processed.

P50 is fine with declaration

P50 is fine with declaration 3 ticked - need to be sure that there are no benefits payable/claimed such as jobseekers. Goes in with P45.
